Atlantic City
The gambling resort town of Atlantic City has long been one of the most popular destinations in New Jersey. It was first developed as a quiet, seaside resort town on Absecon Island in the middle of the 19th century. It has since grown into the home of eleven casinos and countless resorts, restaurants and shops that offer a variety of activities for visitors. Further popularized by the board game Monopoly, Atlantic City also provided the focus and setting of the successful 2009 HBO series, "Boardwalk Empire."
