Fanwood woman struck by car, killed
A borough woman died yesterday morning from injuries suffered when she was hit by a car Tuesday night, police said.
Monica G. Reiss, 59, died at 3:30 a.m. at University Hospital in Newark, said Chief of Police Richard Trigo.
Reiss was struck about 6:43 p.m. on her walk home from work as she crossed Midway Avenue between Tillotson Road and Ridge Way, about two blocks from her home. The driver of the white 2010 Volkswagen Eos that hit her was identified by police only as a 51-year-old woman from Cranford
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, Trigo said.
"We spoke to witnesses and from the evidence we gathered at the scene, speed does not appear to have been a factor in the collision," Trigo said.
After the accident, Reiss was airlifted to University Hospital via state police helicopter.
Police will conduct mechanical tests on the vehicle, as is standard in fatal motor vehicle accidents.
