Looking for a nice park to have a family get together. Preferably grills and shelter as well as a playground area for children's activities. I'm finding only places with large fees. Central Jersey is best location for us. Any help or advice is much appreciated.
Unfortunately most decent picnic areas with grills, shelters, and other facilities for a group outing are going to charge a fee and a permit for the use of the facility.
I would suggest contacting the county park system in the areas your are willing to hold your outing for information on picnic areas, facilities, fees, and permits needed to hold your outing.
Not knowing the county you are interested in holding your outing, as an example, I have provided links (below) to the Middlesex County and Monmouth County Park Systems that offers information on the picnic areas for group outings:
